Indian Trail ExpecTationsIn order for us to have smooth cruisin' through 4th grade, our class practices various procedures throughout the day in our classroom. We also abide by the Indian Trail Department of Transporation rules: Be safe, be respectful, be responsible. Please see our PBIS Expectations Matrix below and link to the complete file by clicking HERE.

Smooth cruisin' behavior
Cruisin' Kids begin each day "Smooth Cruisin." If they go above and beyond they may move to "Hot Rod Status" or "Master of the Open Road." This type of awesome driving results in rewards! (See below)
Sometimes passengers may experience turbulent road conditions as they are cruising. If this occurs, students will receive a warning and may receive a "Traffic Ticket" by me leaving a note for you in your child's assignment notebook. If the road tripper continues to violate the rules of the road, it may result in having their "License Revoked" temporarily. They will need to complete an official "traffic ticket." This ticket is a digital behavior analysis form detailing the poor choice(s) made and how to improve in the future. It will be completed by the student, sent home, signed by parents/guardians, and returned to school the next day. Both instances will result in loss of reward points (see below). Check your child's assignment notebook nightly/weekly for brief updates indicated at the bottom of the page. Class DOJO reports (see below) will also be sent home this year to update you on your child's behavior and rewards. |
We are c.h.a.m.p.s of the scenic route!
Students cannot meet or exceed our expectations for them, if they are not made explicitly clear before beginning tasks together or independently. Our class of cruisin' kids participates in CHAMPS before nearly every activity throughout the day. Check out the video to the right for an overview of the CHAMPS management system. Then look at our Route #125 classroom CHAMPS menu that we use before each activity. (Note: Instead of the "S" in CHAMPS standing for success, we made it stand for "SIGNAL" so that students know which musical tune to listen for when it's time to transition.

Road Trip Rewards!
Earning rewards as a Cruisin' Kid is both fun and educational! We work hard each week to earn Triple AAA Travel Miles in the categories of: behavior, class work, homework, organization, and class jobs.
Mrs. Petlak and each individual driver keeps track of credits (points/money) earned and debits (points/money owed) using an online system called CLASS DOJO. Students who make good choices in the aforementioned categories earn credits, and those who experience turbulence in certain categories earn debits. This process is often referred to as "Classroom Economy." At the end of each week, cruisers receive a report of their debits/credits and total Travel Miles earned. Each child will be given an ACCESS CODE so that you may view their points on Class DOJO from home. See specific credit (reward) and debit (loss of points) categories below. |
Roadside Bank & Scenic Route Souvenir ShopStudents may then cash in their "Traveler's Check" at the Roadside Bank for money to spend at our Scenic Route Souvenir Shop. At the shop, students purchase many exciting items (lunch with Mrs. Petlak, homework passes, and much more!) and help run the bank and souvenir shop. This gives them invaluable real-life experience with MONEY, BUDGETS, and reinforces positive choices in school!
