Flipped learning means that we utilize the powerful applications of technology to invert traditional teaching methods, delivering (lecture) instruction online outside of class and moving hands-on work and practice into the classroom. Traditionally, the teacher's role has been the "Sage on the Stage" with lessons taught in class and practice homework each night. In the flipped model, the teacher's role is to "Guide on the Side," act as a coach, and use feedback from students based on their flipped lessons to drive individualized instruction & hands-on, problem-solving learning. |
Instead of students coming home loaded with work that is frustrating for both themselves and parents, they make the most of their time at home and school by watching lessons on their own time at their own pace, and returning to class prepared to EXPLORE the lesson from the previous night. This allows the teacher to gather data and differentiate instruction most effectively. |
