We would like to see Indian Trail reclaim the 112 Education Foundation iRead trophy with our school reading the most hours. To encourage students in this last week of the iRead competition, our PTO is starting a new tradition awarding the Indian Trail class that logs the most hours of reading with our own Indian Trail iRead trophy plus a Menchie's frozen yogurt party. Let's READ, READ, READ!!!

Remembering Dr. Martin luther King, Jr.We had a week packed with lots of learning goodies, so watch for a post {SOON} detailing our fun educational adventures. For this weekend, I have 2 explorative activities I hope all students will complete as "homework." {Tell the kids not to worry....this is simple and fun.} 1) Monday we remember and celebrate MLK, Jr. In order for students to understand WHY they aren't coming to school (spawned by some confusion and discussions I heard today) I would like for students to watch this Brainpop video detailing his life, passion for civil rights, and impact. They should follow the steps below: -Watch the video (no login required) -Take the CLASSIC QUIZ (We do this all of the time @school, so they know what to do. -EMAIL the quiz results to me (PART of the quiz & they know what to do). 2) Great Depression Website: We have created a 4th grade project-based learning website called IT4Explore. More information about this interactive "webquest" site will be coming soon. Students have been exploring everything on the site throughout this week, and have taken notes on their discoveries at school. For a quick assignment and feedback for us teachers, please have students go to THIS LINK and follow the instructions on the blog. Enjoy the day off & see you TUESDAY!iRead officially starts on Saturday, January 10th at the the Highland Park Public Library. Nationally published authors will be presenting and selling their books all day Saturday. Come and earn a "free" thirty minutes of time on your iRead log hen start your tracking! Gain pages by reading your books, gain sponsors to raise money for the 112 Education Foundation. All Indian Trail students must read and record their pages even if they do not gain sponsors for the fundraising portion. All money raised from iRead goes directly into author visits for every 112 school. The dates are January 10th-January 30th. So read, read, read! Welcome back! I hope everyone had the happiest of holidays and enjoyed every last minute of winter break! It's great to be back and see all of your kiddos' smiling faces. We had a great first day and eased back into our routine. Looking ahead, please keep some of the reminders, dates, and requests in mind. We have used our original ones to the bone and ripped/falling apart folders are making organization nearly impossible, despite valiant student effort. PLEASE get PLASTIC, spiral bound, 8 pocket folders like this one @ Amazon: http://goo.gl/TsTr9i. You DO NOT have to get this exact product, but it DOES need to be PLASTIC folders. IF you have Amazon Prime, then the folders below are a GREAT DEAL, because the are $9.00 each (less than most stores I have found) and FREE SHIPPING with Prime. If you do NOT have Prime and have to pay shipping, you may want to search for them elsewhere. -Thanks, & Welcome Back to School!- |
