FOLLOW THE BLOG! upcoming | Where has the blog been, Mrs. Petlak?!?!?! ....good question.... For the first trimester this little blog has been a bit neglected. We have had great home-school communication, but not necessarily through blog posts. It's one of MY goals to post more frequently on the blog for the remainder of the school year. Emails, Class Messenger, website, & blog.... ...OH, MY!!! It's important for you, as busy parents, to understand the functions of my different home-school communication channels. Let's break them down so that we may all use them to their fullest capabilities! (BE SURE to read to the bottom of this post and check out the LEFT sidebar for BLOG DETAILS!) CLASS MESSENGER: This tool is used for quick, condensed messaging such as general reminders, homework post notifications, snapshots of your individual child at work or from a live event at school. The efficient nature of this app allows me to instantly communicate with all, some, or only individual parents with {literally} the click of a button on my iPad! EMAILS: Usually emails are sent on a personal level to discuss something specific regarding your child. Whether it's a reminder from you about after school arrangements, or a report from me on your child's success or challenge at school that day. Occasionally, I'll send an email in conjunction with a Class Messenger or blog post to reinforce its importance and make sure you receive the information. CLASS WEBSITE: Our website is quite extensive, with numerous individual pages and rich information within each of those. For the most part, many pages on our site are fully loaded and there for your reference throughout the year. Read on for my TOP RECOMMENDATIONS for pages on our site that change and grow throughout the year!! The ROADTRIP SNAPSHOTS SCRAPBOOK page is constantly changing, with photos being added throughout each trimester. From here on out I will update you (most likely via Class Messenger) whenever I add to or create new scrapbooks of our classroom travels on that page. See what we've been learning through a plethora of pictures! Additionally, I sometimes create brand new pages for special events or projects. The PROJECT NINJA page is a great example of such an addition, that was used both for instruction and collaboration IN the classroom, as well as communication to parents and district administration BEYOND the classroom. Check it out, if you haven't yet! You are all familiar with our OFF-ROAD RESEARCH homework web page. In the past, this page has been added to daily with homework assignments for the night. For the remainder of the year, I will post the WEEKLY homework on Mondays (or Tuesdays, if there is no school on Monday) for easy reference WITHOUT THE WAIT throughout the week. Want a peek into our daily/weekly studies?? Check out our CRUISIN' THROUGH CLASS page! While this may not be updated daily, you can get a quick snapshot of academic happenings and how 21st Century learning is being integrated into your child's experience. IF we are awarded Google Chromebooks, this page will become an even more interactive, vital component of our daily endeavors. Last, but not least..... TRAVEL LOG/BLOG: I'm super excited about reviving TRAVEL LOG/BLOG, and will be approaching this differently than I have in previous years. Rather than using the blog for general updates and reminders (I have Class Messenger for that!), this blog will be a place for PARENTS to learn! Curriculum details, tutorials on academic strategies or new classroom/home learning tools, narratives on important classroom events, suggestions for support and help at home, and MORE are what's in store for you with our blog. Take a peek at the LEFT sidebar for a preview of upcoming blog posts! |
